Quasi-static and impact behaviour of foam-filled graded auxetic panel

Cellular structures (in general) and auxetic topologies particular) have excellent energy-dissipation characteristics can be used as lightweight impact-energy absorbers. This paper aims to experimentally computationally examine the behaviour of novel re-entrant graded aluminium panels filled with polyurethane foam in an pattern. The performance is compared 3 non-graded, 1 2 foam-filled panels. 6 share same basic geometry but vary sheet thickness addition foam. were built by corrugating gluing 12 sheets. material properties sheets determined standard mechanical testing. Detailed quasi-static dynamic drop tests conducted a non-linear computational model. stress-strain relationships, deformation patterns, specific energy absorption, crash force efficiency Poisson's ratio comprehensively evaluated. Foam-filled revealed higher absorption more stable than non-filled developed models successfully describe for future virtual testing other configurations.
